• 60 YEARS AGO — Bruce Bell hit three home runs, including a grand slam, to lead McMillan Meats over Jacobson and Greiner 24-21 in the city peewee baseball final.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Bill Adams Sr. and Bill Adams combined to shoot an 83 and win the Bill Thompson Trophy at the annual father and son golf tournament at the Brandon Rec Centre.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Sails beat Victoria Inn Titans 2-1 to advance to the final of the Wally Newton Cup senior men’s soccer tournament. Barry Gooden and Gary Loewen scored for the Sails, while Keith Donkersloot replied for the Titans.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Former Brandon Wheat King player Dave Semenko, an enforcer during the 1980s when he played with the Edmonton Oilers, was named to NHL team’s coaching staff.
• 20 YEARS AGO — On the eve of the season opener, the Brandon Wheat Kings have imported some new talent, courtesy of the Tri-City Americans. Czech left-winger Daniel Bartek, 18, is expected to check into the Wheat City after being acquired from Tri-City in exchange for future considerations that basically amount to Brandon giving him a place to play this season.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Earl Thompson Jr. posted a double-double to lead Team Blue to a 109-103 victory over Team White in the Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team’s intrasquad game in Deloraine. Thompson finished the game with 29 points and 17 rebounds, while Tyvon Cooper led all scorers with 34 points. He added eight assists.
