• 60 YEARS AGO — Neepawa opened the 1966 Beautiful Plains High School Football league on a winning, beating Carberry Collegiate 12-7. John Thompson and Les Pifko scored the Neepawa majors.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Travellers blasted Melville Millionaires 14-2 in their debut at the Keystone Centre. Frank Lang, Larry Naismith and Boyd Mullin fired two goals apiece for the hosts.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Cathy Hyde scored a goal in the first half and Mandy Macbeth pitched a clean sheet as the Stray Cats advanced to the A-side final of the Brandon Senior Soccer League’s women’s tournament with a 1-0 win over the Thunder at Optimist Park.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Dauphin’s Ryan Horn cruised to full member status on the Canadian Tour. Horn shot a one-over-par 73 at the Royal Ashburn Golf Club to finish third in the Fall Qualifying School. The 1999 Manitoba junior champion and 2001 Grey Owl winner, finished two-over-par for the 72-hole tournament.
• 10 YEARS AGO — The Yellowhead Chiefs opened the Southwest Cougars midget AAA hockey tournament by blanking the host Cougars 6-0 in Souris. Brayden Heapy, Josh Belcher, Benoit Mowbray, Parker Johnson, Eric Lemoine and Jaxon Heeney provided the offence for the Chiefs. Jeremy Ductawich and Carter Charney split the shutout, while Keegan Watkins-McIntyre and Randy Cook shared the crease for the Cougars.
