• 60 YEARS AGO — Mrs. Wayne Turner, an employee of Manitoba Hydro in Brandon, won the Pidluberg trophy at the Elkhorn Golf Club, leading 22 members of the Elkhorn Golf Club, in handicap competition.
• 50 YEARS AGO — Pressures from family and business plus the rambunctious manner of hockey he demands from his players apparently cost Brian Boyle his job as coach of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Brandon Travellers.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Brandon Club United defeated the Sails 3-2 in a Brandon Senior Men’s Soccer League game. Jody Williams, Chris Ferguson and Tim Giles scored for the winners. Larry Fleury and Danny Perkins had the Sails’ goals.
• 20 YEARS AGO — A Brandon boy is wearing the ‘C’ in Prince Albert this season. The Raiders have named 20-year-old winger Mike Hellyer as team captain for the 2006-07 Western Hockey League season.
