• 60 YEARS AGO — The Knights of Columbus won the Little League B baseball title. Team members included: Bat boy Randy Brown, Gord Hyde, Bob McCallum, Bruce Gehrling, Dennis Robertson, Bruce McCallum, Cliff Clisby, Garry Best, Rick Brown, Bryan Sotheran, Matt Thompson, Rick Frank, Roy Dickson, Jean-Marc Bouvier and coach Vic Brown.
• 50 YEARS AGO — The Killarney Raiders improved their high school football record to 4-0 with a 31-2 defeat of Souris Sabres. Touchdowns by Bruce Shewfelt, Bob Chapman, Blaine Howath and Lyle McFarlene paced the way for the winners.
• 40 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians captured their first championship since the team was formed in 1982, defeating the University of Manitoba 11-3 in the Manitoba Rugby Union’s Division II final. Guy McKim and Cam Randall both had a try for the Barbarians and Don Cooper rounded out the scoring with a penalty kick.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Kevin Saurette scored four goals, including a natural hat trick in the second period, as the Wheat Kings upended the Interlake Lightning 7-1 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Andrew Gurba of Brandon was acquired by the OCN Blizzard from the Powell River Kings in the BCHL in exchange for Blake Cosgrove.
• 10 YEARS AGO — Jordan Martin scored a goal and an assist to lead the Neepawa Natives to their first win the MJHL season. Brandonite Tyler Gutenberg made 30 saves in the contest.
