The Assiniboine College Cougars started their season with two wins and a loss in a three-day stretch.

The team started the weekend strong with a 4-0 victory over Dakota College at Bottineau on Friday. Montana Jubenvill, Madison Haliuk, Brooke Cyr and Kylee Emms-Finnsson scored goals in the contest, and goaltender Bailey Schwartz recorded a 10-save shutout to start her season.

The Cougars kept things rolling with a 7-2 win over the University of St. Thomas on Saturday. Rachel Halldorson made 31 saves on 33 shots while giving both goalies a win in their opening contests of the year.

Katie Falkevitch and Jenna Walker scored a pair of goals each while Lexi Remillard and Jubenvill also got on the board. Newcomers Payton Durand and Karlee Poznecov both picked up their first points as Cougars in the form of primary assists.

The final game of the weekend ended in a 4-2 loss for Assiniboine College to the University of Wisconsin-Madison due to a slow start. Halldorson made 30 saves on 34 shots, but the Cougars were down 3-0 heading into the final period.

Falkevitch continued her hot start to the year with another goal, giving her three in three games, and Durand added a marker of her own, but ultimately the team fell short.

The Cougars will return home and continue their season on Oct. 24 and 25 with a pair of games against Jamestown University.
