TORONTO – Sam Antonacci’s two-run homer capped a five-run second inning and the Chicago White Sox didn’t look back in a 12-4 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

Kyle Teel’s one-run double, Braden Montgomery’s fielder’s choice and Chase Meidroth’s RBI single provided the other runs in the second as Chicago (51-45) won its fourth straight.

Colson Montgomery drove in three more runs with a bases-clearing double in the fifth. Montgomery had a three-run triple in the seventh and then scored on Tristan Peters’s sacrifice fly.

Anthony Kay struck out five over four innings, allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. Trevor Richards, Seranthony Dominguez and Tyler Schweitzer came out of the White Sox’s bullpen.

Luis Urias, George Springer and Brandon Valenzuela all had solo shots as Toronto (45-52) lost its third straight.

Springer, making his first start in the outfield this season, also drove in a run with a fielder’s choice in the third inning.

Spencer Miles (4-2) coughed up six runs on six hits, striking out four over four innings. Adam Macko, Patrick Corbin, Braydon Fisher and CJ Van Eyk followed him to the mound, allowing six more runs.

TAKEAWAYS

White Sox: Chicago scored in bunches, with five-, three- and four-run innings. Although their pitching wasn’t dominant, they didn’t have to be with the White Sox jumping out to an early lead and tacking on more runs any time Toronto got on the scoreboard.

Blue Jays: Before the game Toronto manager John Schneider said that Miles, who is typically a relief pitcher or “opener,” could be used in longer appearances. Miles did not inspire confidence in his worst outing since May 31 when he gave up six runs over three innings in a 9-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles.

KEY MOMENT

Antonacci connected on a 94.8 miles per hour four-seam fastball, the fifth pitch he saw from Miles, launching it 365 feet to right field. It boosted Chicago’s win probability up 11.7 per cent to 87.8 per cent in just the second inning.

KEY STAT

Toronto dropped to 19-37 when its opponent scored first.

UP NEXT

Shane Bieber (0-1) will take the mound for Toronto on Saturday in the second of the three-game weekend series.

Davis Martin (9-4) gets the start for the White Sox.
