Murray Warren’s Brandon squad, which includes Brian Barker at third, Terry Warren at second and Reginald Warren at lead, captured the provincial men’s Masters’ curling championship Sunday at the Assiniboine Memorial Curling Club in Winnipeg
After posting a 7-0 record in their pool, Warren defeated Greg McGibbon’s Granite rink by a score of 8-6 in the 1 vs. 1 Page playoff game and followed that up with a 6-4 win over Mark Chapman of the Granite in the final.
Warren will represent Manitoba at the nationals this fall in Winnipeg, where he’ll be joined by women’s provincial champion Judy Colwell of the East St. Paul Curling Club.
Meanwhile, Zoey Terrick’s Neepawa rink — which includes third Cassidy Dundas, second Tessa Terrick and lead Madison Sagert — won the under-18 provincial title on Sunday at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg with a 5-3 triumph over Grace Beaudry of the St. Vital Curling Club.
Jordon McDonald’s Deer Lodge squad, which features Virden’s Jace Freeman at second, won the men’s event by a score of 8-1 over Ryan Ostrowsky’s West St. Paul rink.
Terrick, Beaudry, McDonald and Ostrowsky have all advanced to the national U18 championship, which will be held next month in Oakville, Ont.
