Elizabeth Caballero put up 12 points as the Crocus Plainsmen came from behind to beat the Vincent Massey Vikings 64-54 in their Brandon High School Basketball League varsity girls season opener at Massey on Tuesday.
The Plainsmen were down 17-1 early but battled back and took the lead early in the fourth quarter. Xuan Cao recorded 11 points and Randi Burnett chipped in 10 for the Plainsmen.
Alexa Bauman led Massey with 12 points and Ryan DeGroot netted 10.
The boys game was still in progress at press time.
In Monday’s JV boys opener, Massey took Crocus down 56-40. Ayden Bone had nine points to lead the host Plainsmen.
Crocus dominated the girls game 74-21 as Kylie Kulman dropped 34. Lexi Anderson netted 20 points with Brooklyn Catagas adding eight.
Chelsea Nnamani paced the Vikings with eight points.
Neelin opens its JV season at home today against Crocus, with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and boys at 7:45.
Massey visits Neelin in varsity action at the same times on Thursday.
