IN LOCAL HISTORY

• 60 YEARS AGO — Four-goal scoring sprees by Denny Russell and Barry Moffatt carried Souris intermediates to an 8-5 win over Wawanesa in an exhibition game. Ray Hill and Glen Couling notched two for Wawanesa with Bob Wilton scoring one.

• 40 YEARS AGO — Carol Grant was flawless in goal as Fred’s Dry Cleaners downed First Street Plaza 2-0 in a Brandon Women’s Broomball League playoff game. Patty Buckman and Francis Zimmer scored for the winners in the opening game of the best-of-three series.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Brent Kyle scored two goals, including the game- winner, to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 3-2 victory over the NorMan Northstars in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Souris natives Jason Butler and Jared Lang combined for nine points to lead the OCN Blizzard to a 14-1 thrashing of the Waywayseecappo Wolverines in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Butler scored three goals and assisted in three others, while Lang had a goal and two assists for the Blizzard.

• 10 YEARS AGO — The second-ranked Brandon University Bobcats viewed the Canada West conference women’s volleyball playoffs as a new season, and played like it at the Healthy Living Centre, getting swept 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-12) by the unranked University of British Columbia Okanagan Heat in the opening match of their best-of-three quarter-final.
