A two-goal third period powered the Pembina Valley Hawks past the Southwest Cougars 3-1 in their best-of-five Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League semifinal on Wednesday in Souris.
With the score level at 1-1 after 40 minutes, Justin Keck scored two minutes into the second to give the Hawks the lead. Andrew Boucher scored a couple minutes later to double the lead. Michael Hlady netted the other goal for Pembina Valley, which took a 2-0 series lead with the win.
Brandonite Jordan Boyechko scored the lone marker for the Cougars in the loss.
Reid Dyck stopped 39 shots in the win, while Eric Reid kicked aside 17 shots in the loss.
The Hawks will go for the series sweep in Morden on Friday at 8 p.m.
