Jordy Stallard and Robert Hechler both scored three goals and set up three others as the Brandon A&W Bantam AA Wheat Kings went 1-0-1 Friday at the provincial Bantam AAA rural championship in Morden.

The Wheat Kings opened the nine-team event with a 12-0 thumping of the NorMan Wolves before tying the Eastman Selects 4-4. They will have to wait for the result of today’s game between the Interlake Lightning and the Parkland Rangers before they find out if they will play in a quarter-final today or earn a bye to one of Sunday’s semifinals.

The Southwest Cougars will also be watching this morning’s game, but for them it will determine if they stay in the championship side of the draw. The Cougars put up a 0-1-1 record in their pool with a 2-2 tie with the Rangers and a 3-0 loss to the Lightning and will play in a quarter-final if the Lightning beat the Rangers by four or more goals.

Nial Mills and Meyer Nell scored for the Cougars.

Meanwhile, the Yellowhead Chiefs went 1-1-0 as they beat the Central Plains Capitals 5-3 in the morning before falling 9-0 to the Pembina Valley Hawks last night. Clay Bergson and Logan Clark both had one goal and one assist for the Chiefs, while Morgan Geekie picked up two assists against the Capitals. They will play in one of today’s quarter-finals.
