Terry McNamee and his Brandon Curling Club team have advanced to the final day of the provincial mixed curling championship today in Winnipeg.
McNamee, third Kerri Einarson, second Kyle Einarson and lead Stacey Fordyce won their final five games at the championship to finish first in Red Group with a 6-1 record and the right to play Winnipeg’s David Kraichy in the 1 vs. 1 Page playoff game.
The winner of that game, which was still in progress late last night, advanced to today’s final at 1:30 p.m. The loser dropped to the semifinal and plays either defending provincial champions Sean Grassie or Winnipeg’s James Kirkness, who won a tiebreaker 8-7 over Jesse McCullough on Sunday morning.
All the other Westman-based teams were eliminated from playoff contention heading into Sunday. Neepawa’s Ace Ross was the only other team to finish with a winning record, going 4-3 after beating Kirkness 10-6 in his last round-robin game.
Carberry’s Kelly Marnoch finished 2-5 and Pilot Mound’s Curtis McCannell went 1-6 in the Red Group. Dauphin’s Rae Kujanpaa went 3-4 in the Black Group.
