Cassidy Carels of Bruxelles has been named the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League player of the week.
The 17-year-old centre with the Pembina Valley Hawks had two goals and three assists in the final two games of the Hawks’ semifinal victory over the Central Plains Capitals last week. She scored the series-winning goal with 37 seconds left in a 2-1 win in Game 4 on Saturday. Carels, a member of Canada’s gold-medal winning team at this year’s world under-18 hockey championship, led the Hawks in scoring this season with 46 goals and 85 points in 55 games, including 20 goals and 39 points in 25 league games.
