Brandon will a feast for football fans next month.
Vincent Massey’s high school field will be the site of a doubleheader as the Brandon-based Westman Wolverines kick off their Manitoba Major Football League season against the St. Vital Mustangs at noon. That game will be followed by a Canadian Junior Football League exhibition game in the Prairie Football Conference between the Winnipeg Rifles and Regina Thunder at 3 p.m.
“It’s going to be quite a day and we’re just trying to breathe some fresh life into football and get a lot more exposure to the game and keep this great sport rolling,” said Westman Youth Football Association commissioner Blaine Moroz, one of the game’s organizers.
“I’ve asked both junior clubs to bring their scouting crew because these (Wolverines players) are kids of the same age that are eligible to play junior, but for whatever reason maybe they don’t get the exposure. I know members of both of the junior clubs personally and they are very excited to come out here and see what Westman and Winnipeg has for talent.”
Admission will be $10, getting you into both games.
