The Vincent Massey Vikings swept the varsity girls’ and varsity boys’ titles in the Brandon High School Volleyball League on Monday.

The Vikings varsity girls — the sixth-ranked AAAA team in the province — beat the host Neelin Spartans 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 25-17) to win the city final 2-0.

Shayla Heinrichs had 18 kills, three aces and two blocks, while Avery Maginel added 13 kills and four blocks for the Vikings. Danielle Larocque replied with eight kills for the Spartans.

Meanwhile, the seventh-ranked Vikings varsity boys beat the host Crocus Plainsmen 3-1 (20-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-17) to sweep the final 2-0. Seth Friesen hammered 19 kills and Cole Tokaryk added seven for Massey. Colton Swallow replied with 13 kills, while Devon Cooper added 11 for Crocus.

The Vikings teams will face Winkler’s Garden Valley Zodiaks in interzone playoff matches on Friday at Vincent Massey, with the varsity girls’ match slated for 3 p.m., followed by varsity boys’ action at 4:30 p.m. The winners advance to the provincial AAAA regional round of 12 in Winnipeg on Nov. 21-22.

The Neelin girls and the Crocus boys are both applying for AAAA wild-card berths into provincials.
