Hey there, time traveller!

Kaoane Loch picked a terrific night for her best match as a Brandon University Bobcat.
After a red-hot start and a few bad breaks for BU, Loch spiked home her career-high 13th kill of the night on match point as Brandon (2-1) avoided a reverse sweep and beat the Regina Cougars (0-3) 3-2 (25-16, 25-16, 24-26, 24-26, 15-13) in their Canada West women’s volleyball match in Regina on Friday.
The Brazilian middle added four blocks, three digs and two aces and had a .458 hitting percentage with just two errors. Fifth-year setter Jamie Bain had 62 assists and ran a fantastic offence that put up 73 kills and 25 errors, hitting .276.
Captain Rayvn Wiebe led with 22 kills and 15 digs.
“On this game, their team was not focusing on me that much on blocking,” Loch said. “They were heading towards Ray a lot so I was open all the way. I only had the middle at first.
“… Jamie did an awesome job setting and reading their blocking, so it’s on Jamie as well.”
The Bobcats came out hot and the Cougars absolutely didn’t. BU had 15 kills while Regina had just four with six errors in a quick opening frame.
Loch scored late in the second set to make it 18-15, then went on a serving run all the way to set point. Regina native Nika Tolley scored Brandon’s penultimate point on a hard cross-court shot, then finished the set with a crafty tip down the line.
The third set was tight to the end and BU had a match point at 24-23 after Bain made a phenomenal bump set over her head and across the court to Wiebe for a right-side kill. But Regina took the next three points to extend the night.
The fourth set stayed tight all the way down the stretch before the Cougars dug a Danielle Dardis tip and Jessica Lerminiaux hammered a back-row ball to force the fifth.
“It was kind of frustrating at first because we could win in three,” Loch said.
“It was just to keep focused. We knew what we needed to do. We needed to add a little bit of pressure on the serve and we were superior on that part.”
Wiebe racked up two kills and two aces early in the frame, then made two key blocks to bring up match point.
Taryn Hannah chipped in 12 kills while Dardis notched 10 with two errors for .381. Caitlin Le dug up 17 balls for Brandon.
Caitlyn Spurr and Lerminiaux had 21 kills apiece for Regina while Spurr made a match-high 19 digs.
The Bobcats and Cougars clash again tonight at 6 p.m.
“We need to be more focused in the third set because we were doing everything right in the first two,” Loch said. “Just do what we were doing.”
