• 50 YEARS AGO — Phil MacMillan, Walter Borotsik, Bryan Woods, Grant McPhail, Lawrie Lewis, Jim MacDonald Jr. and Murray Nye joined the list of nominees for the Sun’s Sportsman of the Year award

• 40 YEARS AGO — Beth Cochran scored 35 points as the Hamiota Huskies dumped the Crocus Plainsmen 67-62 in an exhibition varsity girls’ basketball game. Sara Conlin led the Plainsmen with 29 points.

• 30 YEARS AGO — Nathan Doe fired five goals as the Minnedosa/Erickson Bombers beat the Rossburn Raiders 9-3 in Westman High School Hockey league action.

• 20 YEARS AGO — Kyle Kettles did his best Grinch imitation last night, but Jordin Tootoo refused to allow him to spoil the Brandon Wheat Kings’ Christmas send-off. Despite making 41 saves on the night, Kettles wasn’t quick enough to stop Tootoo’s big blast with 7:23 remaining in the third period that gave the Wheat Kings a 2-1 WHL victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors before a crowd of 2,702 at the Keystone Centre.
