Jens Watt took his first swings of the Brandon University Bobcats regular season in fine fashion but it was far from enough.
Watt, who played libero last semester but started at left side this weekend, had 14 kills with seven errors and seven digs as the Saskatchewan Huskies downed the Bobcats 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-16) in Canada West men’s volleyball action in Saskatoon on Saturday.
Brandon (4-6) started Brazilian Joao Cunha at right side on Friday but he didn’t play on Saturday.
Setter Jake Rapin led a balanced Huskies attack with 41 assists, feeding Levi Olson (13 kills), Dylan Mortensen (11) and Skyler Varga (10) to double-digits.
Saskatchewan (5-5) finished with a .306 hitting percentage to Brandon’s .198.
In the women’s match, Saskatchewan (7-1) took a firm hold of first place in the East with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19) victory.
The Huskies hit .242 while the Bobcats (4-4) hit just .101.
Rayvn Wiebe led BU with 10 kills and just one error while Nicole Ashauer posted five kills and a team-high 11 digs.
Emily Koshinsky notched a match-high 14 kills for Saskatchewan.
BU has a bye this week, then a home-and-home with Winnipeg on Jan. 27 and 29.
