IN LOCAL HISTORY
• 50 YEARS AGO — Dale Riddell had two goals for the Pierson Bruins as they captured their seventh Southwest Hockey League championship in 18 years with a 7-4 triumph over the Boissevain Border Kings. The Bruins won the best-of-five series in three games.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Kevin Sorenson and Dan Sunaert each scored twice for the Deloraine Royals as they won the Southwest Hockey League title in four games after an 8-5 victory over the St. Rose Royals in Dauphin.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Brandon’s Kathy Scott recorded the shutout as the Westman Falcons blanked the Carman Cougars 3-0 for the bronze medal in the midget division of the Western Canadian Shield women’s hockey championship in Winnipeg.
• 20 YEARS AGO — Riley Wallace had two third period goals for the Souris Elks as they picked up a 5-1 win over the Boissevain Border Kings in Game 4 of the Southwest Hockey League final.
