• 50 YEARS AGO — Gunner Smith and Harvey Carroll combined for a one-hitter as A&W defeated Northern Auto 6-1 in a Brandon Centennial Fastball League game at Curran Park.
• 40 YEARS AGO — Larry Fleury scored twice and Scott Crang earned the shutout as Crocus defeated Neelin A by a score of 2-0 in boys’ high school soccer action.
• 30 YEARS AGO — Kevin Pratt had a 23-point outing for Westman as they lost 76-66 to Fort Garry in the provincial juvenile boys basketball championship in Winnipeg. Todd McCullough led the way for the victors with 29 points.
• 20 YEARS AGO — The ACC Cougars posted victories over the Red Deer Kings, Prince George Impact and the Calgary Canuck Stuff to reach the playoffs at the Canadian midget boys volleyball championship in Calgary.
