• 50 YEARS AGO  Jim Smith pitched a no-hitter as Wilton Motors clobbered Basswood 18-0 in the Midwest Midget Baseball League.

• 40 YEARS AGO  Galen Sonntag hit two home runs to lead Elks to a 10-9 victory over UCT in Brandon Minor Baseball Association Bantam A playoff action.

• 30 YEARS AGO  Derek Chalmers pitched a three-hitter as the Sioux Valley Chiefs dumped the Minnedosa Mavericks 5-1 in a Yellowhead Baseball League game.

• 20 YEARS AGO — The Brandon Barbarians hammered the Shilo Stags 34-0 to retain hold of first place in Division II of the Manitoba Rugby Union last night. Scott McMullan led the way with a try and two converts, while Kevin Teneycke, Jamie Husband, Stewart Dyck, Casey Lockhart and Rob Dundas added tries for the Barbarians.
