The Waves of Hope formed in 1999 as a dream of Sharon Young. This year, the breast cancer dragon boat team’s 12th annual Spring Fashion Show was held on May 7 at the UCT Pavilion at the Keystone Centre.
Many happy volunteers from the community, including Brandon firefighters, pitched in to help out at the event and strut their stuff on the catwalk. Many local businesses organized outfits, applied makeup and styled hair to make everyone beautiful.
Approximately 500 people attended this popular event, which is organized by breast cancer survivors and support persons.
The vision of Waves of Hope is that they would reach all Westman residents with their message that early detection and awareness is paramount in increasing the chance of survival for both men and women, and to offer encouragement and support after diagnosis of breast cancer.
The logo of the Waves of Hope dragon boat team shows a dragon “rising from rough waters,” symbolizing how we are rising above the adversity of breast cancer.
