Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 23/12/2010 (5609 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
‘Tis the season for the annual barrage of "year end / best of" lists. I know what you’re thinking: "Oh great! Just what I need — another freakin’ list!" Especially this time of the year when you’re busy preparing for Christmas.
It seems these "best of the year" type lists are everywhere: the check-out lines, on the TV, all over the Net and on the radio. What’s worse is there’s a best of list for everything — from who had the best hair styles to the worst dressed celebs of the year. Phrases of the year, words of the year and seriously, do we really need to know the best celeb tweets of the year?
Maybe we do because that’s what led to the "The Top 20 Internet Lists of 2010," which, by the way, was topped by the 15 douchiest John Mayor quotes! Yes there is such a thing! I can’t make that up.
I’m cool with lists for practical things like what are the best cars of the year or even trivial lists like what’s hot and what’s not. But for the most part we like to stick with the music theme in this column.
So as we close out another year, let’s take this opportunity to sit back and relax while you look back on the year that was in music. By the way, since all these types of lists are open to debate, once again I’ve decided to offer up a multi-formatted perspective by turning things over to some of my contacts in the radio world.
Some of these lists are from people currently entertaining their listeners in this market. Some are from on-air personalities who used to don the headphones, flip on the microphone and heat up the Westman airwaves. So not only does this edition of Happenings give us a sampling of what’s popular with various radio formats and their audiences, it also allows us to catch up with some former Brandon radio folk who have moved on to other markets.
