PENHOLD, Alta. — Recently at Penhold Air Cadet Summer Training Centre, Leading Air Cadet Matthew Scott from 82 Squadron in Brandon attended a drill improvement exercise.

Matthew and his flight, Voodoo, joined the drill and ceremonial instructors to refresh their memories on basic drill, something they had previously learned at their home unit.

The general training cadets as well as the drill instructors spent the drill class in the shade — hidden from the summer’s golden sun.

This was Matthew’s first time at a cadet summer training centre, and he quickly came to appreciate the benefits camp has to offer.

“I like it a lot,” he said. “I miss home a little, but I love to be here and meet new people.”

Later on, Matthew and his flight had a chance to practise their drill commands and just like every 12-year-old kid full of life, they blew the adults away.

Even though their voices weren’t loud enough to shatter glass, they still gave their officers a good migraine while impressing the drill instructors.

The real fun is still yet to come because with every introduction to a new aspect of cadets showcased in the two-week general training course, Leading Air Cadet Matthew Scott will have an excellent idea on where to go next by the end of the summer.
