Congratulations to the Glenboro Canucks U10 girls softball team for winning the Provincial B Championship the last weekend in June.

The 21-team tournament started Friday at 5 p.m. and the final game of the tournament wasn’t until Sunday at 6:30 p.m. due to many rain and lightning delays on Saturday.

The Canucks started with a win against the Dakota Lazers Friday evening. It was back to the ball diamond Saturday for a game at 10:40 a.m. against the Waverley Grey Tornados.

After many weather delays, the game was finally finished at 3:30 p.m. with the Canucks coming out on top. That was the only one of the three games scheduled on Saturday the Canucks got in.

The new schedule made for a very long day Sunday, starting off with a game at 9:40 a.m. against the 2014 provincial champions, the Brandon Heat.

It was a battle right to the end, with the Heat taking the lead in the final inning to win the game 5-4.

The Canucks’ final game of the round robin would determine whether or not they got to continue on to the quarter finals or head home, as only the top two teams in each pool made the quarter finals. The Canucks came out swinging and were victorious over the very solid Deloraine team.

The Canucks would play their third game of the day in the intense heat against the Virden Stingets in the quarter finals.

Hayden Feschuk and Sophia Anderson continued on with their stellar pitching to lead the Canucks to a win.

The semi-final game saw the Canucks come up against a team from Southdale. Outstanding pitching, great fielding, and some tremendous hits all contributed to the Canucks win.

It was off the finals against the Warren Wildcats — and what a final it was! The Canucks were down 2-1 going into the final inning and got on the sticks at just the right time. The Canucks got their maximum six runs to bring them in to the bottom of the final inning.

Sophia stepped on to that mound and took matters into her own hands, striking out the first batter. Then Taylor Levasseur made an incredible throw from shortstop to get the second out.

The final out was a ball hit down the first base line, which Hayden fielded to perfection and took care of that final play all on her own.

What a way to end an unbelievable season. The Canucks entered into the provincial championship without a loss all season, they had set their sights high, and went for it!
