Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 05/12/2019 (2239 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
Winnipeg-based promotion Canadian Wrestling’s Elite (CWE) made a return to Brandon Nov. 27 as a part of their “The Juice is on the Loose” tour, which also included stops in Westman communities such as Souris and Oak Lake.
This six-match card, which took place at Houstons Country Roadhouse, featured an eclectic mix of upcoming stars and veteran talent, with lucha libre cruiserweight legend Juventud Guerrera being the main draw.
However, Brandon-based wrestler Jeff Ritchot, also known as Brian Rich in the ring, generated one of the biggest reactions of the night during his match against current CWE champion Vincent Marseglia.
Even though the challenger came up short in this semi-main event, Ritchot told the Sun he’s always happy to perform in front of a hometown crowd and can’t wait to return to Brandon for future wrestling shows.
Ritchot even got some backup in the form of local mixed martial arts competitor Curtis Demarce, who made his pro-wrestling debut as a manager.
Marseglia drew nuclear heat from the crowd after mocking Demarce for his recent knock-out loss at November’s Fight for the Troops event in Brandon, although the welterweight got his revenge at the end of the match by hitting the CWE champ with a suplex.
After the show, Demarce told the Sun that he’s interested in pursuing professional wrestling in some capacity, thinking that his tendency to trash talk during MMA bouts would definitely translate.
Elsewhere on the card, TK O’Ryan made “No. 1” Brian Johnson submit in the evening’s main event.
Current Thrash Wrestling champion Danny Duggan successfully defended his title against “The Zombie Princess” Jimmy Jacobs in the opening match of the night.
Alix Zwicker beat Blair Onyx using an exposed turnbuckle, while the “The Hamburg Heartthrob” Norman Harras came out on top during a triple threat match.
Finally, Guerrera lead his team, comprising “The Rebel” Bobby Collins and Mentallo, to victory in six-man tag action against the trio of Kevin Cannon, AJ Sanchez and Kevin O’Doyle.
CWE will be coming back to Brandon on May 20 as a part of their 11th anniversary tour.
