Hey there, time traveller!

Rivers residents who want to see the winning pieces from the 40th Westman Juried Art Show in person should drop by Prairie Crocus Regional Library over the next couple days, since the Arts West Travelling Gallery will be moving on after Saturday.
These 20 works, which include oil paintings, 2D fibre art, mixed media and charcoal drawings, were all created by amateur artists in the Westman region.
After being handpicked by jurors Lisa Wood and Michael Boss in April 2019 out of 110 different entries, the Arts West Council has been shipping these various pieces off to 15 different communities in southwestern Manitoba, with Rivers being the latest host site.
After Saturday, the gallery will be making its way to the Newdale Drop-in Centre (Feb. 24-March 14), the Strathclair Community Centre (March 16-April 4), the Shoal Lake Community Library (April 6-29) and finally the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium in Brandon (May 4-27).
However, Arts West co-ordinator Margaret Stewart said aspiring artists should already be looking ahead to the 41st Westman Juried Art Show, which is taking place in Killarney on May 2.
“It’s one of the only opportunities for Westman amateur artists to display their work,” she told the Sun earlier this month. “Because the art gallery here in Brandon tends to bring in outside people, and they rarely show regional artwork unless you’re an artist of note.”
Anyone interested in submitting their work for this contest should drop it off at Brandon’s Provincial Building (340 9th Street) in room 335. The deadline for entry is April 24.
