Democrat Ben Lujan won election Tuesday to the U.S. Senate representing New Mexico, defeating Republican Larry E. Marker. Lujan, who was first elected to the Senate in 2020, previously served five terms in the U.S. House. The Democrat ran on a platform that included reducing costs and expanding access to healthcare. The odds of victory had been against Marker, who won the Republican nomination as a write-in candidate in the Democratic-leaning state. The Associated Press declared Lujan the winner at 9:00 p.m. EST.
