Democrat Jamie Ager won election Tuesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing North Carolina's 11th Congressional District, defeating Republican Jennifer Balkcom. Ager won despite a strong Republican voting history in the western North Carolina district. He owns a business selling pasture-raised meats and says his family has a long history of farming in the area. Balkcom, a state legislator, became the Republican nominee after incumbent Rep. Chuck Edwards suspended his re-election campaign in August. The Associated Press declared Ager the winner at 8:53 p.m. EST.
