Republican Alan Wilson won election Wednesday as governor of South Carolina, defeating Democrat Jermaine Johnson. Wilson has served as attorney general since 2011. He will succeed Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, who was term-limited, and continue a string of Republican victories dating to 2002. Wilson is the son of longtime U.S. Rep. Joe. Wilson. Johnson has served in the state House since 2020. The Associated Press declared Wilson the winner at 12:35 a.m. EST.
