Republican Phil Scott won election Wednesday as governor of Vermont, defeating Democrat Amanda Janoo. The moderate Republican has spent a decade at the helm of a state that generally favors Democrats. He is the first governor to win six consecutive terms since Vermont switched from a one-year to a two-year election cycle in 1870. Janoo was a first-time candidate who previously worked with the United Nations. The Associated Press declared Scott the winner at 12:35 a.m. EST.
