Today

• 10 a.m. — The 31st annual used book sale is taking place at the Brandon Public Library until Nov. 14 during regular library hours. Hardcovers, paperbacks and magazines. Come early for the best selection.

• 10 a.m. — No Stone Left Alone service takes place at the City of Brandon Cemetery Cenotaph. About 700 students from École Harrison School, St. Augustine’s School and Valleyview School will pay their respects to veterans by placing poppies at more than 900 military headstones. Joining them will be soldiers from CFB Shilo, the Royal Canadian Legion and other dignitaries. The goal is to ensure that every soldier’s headstone in fields of honour throughout the Brandon area receives a poppy. Parking will not be available on the cemetery grounds although there will be reserved parking in the Landmark Cinemas parking lot. The public is encouraged to attend.

• 11:45 a.m. —The Victoria Inn is sponsoring the United Way of Brandon and District’s good old-fashioned spaghetti lunch with all the fixings in the Grand Salon at the Victoria Inn until 1 p.m. 50/50 draw and a chance to play Done in 60 Seconds. • 7 p.m. — The Rapid City Drama Club presents “Office Hours,” by Norm Foster, at the Rapid City Legion Hall. Tickets $20 per person or a full table of eight for $140. Saturday, Nov. 7

• 7 a.m. — Campbell’s Jump for the Cure is a hunter/jumper horse show that is a fundraiser for breast cancer research. It is held in the north indoor arena at the Keystone Centre until 6 p.m. There will be classes for every age from poles on the ground right up to the big jumpers. There will be draws and other merchandise to purchase as fundraisers. This is a free event to attend.

• 10 a.m. —The Global Market has moved inside for the winter. We are now open year-round. The Global Market is open every Saturday at 23 12th St. until 2 p.m.

• 10 a.m. — Minnedosa Kinette annual craft and gift sale will be held in the Minnedosa Community Conference Centre 2 p.m. Lunch served.

• 10 a.m. — The Monterey craft/trade show will be held in the Monterey Estates Recreation Centre with many vendors in attendance until 2 p.m. Lunch will be served.

• 10:30 a.m. — Wheat City Carvers yearly show and competition takes place at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium until 4 p.m. Admission is $3 at the door.

• 11 a.m. — World Cooking Class will be held at the Global Market Community Kitchen until 1 p.m. Westman Immigration Services invites you to learn to cook delicious dishes from Portugal. $20 per session. • 11 a.m. — The Stocking Stuffer Trade Show takes place at the Valleyview Community Centre until 6 p.m. There will be lots of Christmas shopping available and a door prize valued at more than $500. Everyone entered into door prize draw and you can receive an additional entry when you bring a non-perishable food item for Samaritan House (up to 10 entries).

• 2 p.m. —Come step back in time when Daly House Museum recreates Mrs. Annie Coldwell’s “Patriotic” Tea until 4 p.m. Mrs. Coldwell and her family lived in the home at 122 18th St. for more than 30 years where she hosted many teas during the First World War to raise money and collect clothing for the men in the services, children and others in need. In addition to tea and home baking, there will be live musical entertainment, a demonstration of hand sewing and a special exhibit about life on the home front. • 3:30 p.m. — Eckhardt-Grammatté Conservatory of Music recital with Mary Jo Carrabré, director, takes place at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. No admission.

• 4:30 p.m. — Oak Lake and Area Lion’s Club annual fish fry will be held in the Oak Lake Community Hall until 7 p.m.

• 7:30 p.m. — The Evans Theatre at Brandon University is showing “Beeba Boys,” starring Randeep Hooda, Ali Momen and Sarah Allen.

• Double Decker — Recently acknowledged by the CBC as one of the top 10 bands to watch for, French Press takes the stage on Friday with guest Micah Visser. No cover.

• Sand Hills Casino — Entertainment in the Oasis Lounge on Friday and Saturday will be country recording artist from Saskatchewan the Samara Yung Band.

• The 40 — Kenny Shields and Streetheart take the stage on Friday. Tickets $30. Doors open at 8:30 p.m. On Saturday, it is the return of the afternoon jams between 5 p.m.-8 p.m. All singers and musicians are welcome to come sing, play and have loads of fun with Mike Sacharko and the 40 Jam Band. At the museums & galleries

• The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba — In the Main Gallery: “The Thaw” by Jillian McDonald is a video shot on location around southwestern Manitoba, from Virden to Souris Valley and the RMNP with more than 20 volunteer actors from the community. Also “Glacier,” by Peter Morin, in response to McDonald’s residency, looks at the Prairie landscape as a site of multiple overlapping histories. Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday until 9 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. For more info, visit agsm.ca.

• The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery (RCA) Museum at CFB Shilo —The museum will be open free of charge on Remembrance Day from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. The RCA Museum has five indoor galleries in a 25,000-sq.-ft., air-conditioned building. Come see our temporary Airborne Gunner exhibit until Nov. 27. Also on display, outside the building are 28 guns and vehicles, with interpretive panels, located in the Gun Park. Museum hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday to Friday. Adults 18 years and older must produce a valid photo identification to enter the base. • The Brandon General Museum and Archives — On the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. New exhibit is “Life in the Flats,” describing the problems and achievements of the people who settled in that area (north end) of Brandon in the last century. Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 1 p.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. For more information, call 204-717-1514.

• The Daly House Museum — Original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, which was built in 1882 and is the only period museum in western Manitoba. On exhibit: “Ceramics Settling the Prairies” on display until Jan. 31. This exhibit explores how transportation and immigration influenced the ceramics available in Brandon from 1891 to 1914. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

• The Tommy McLeod Curve Gallery — Located in the John E. Robbins Library at Brandon University. Public exhibition showcasing new work by Ben Davis is on display until December. Using photographs, cartographic research and satellite imagery of a mile-by-mile section of land south of Brandon, Davis has created drawn, painted and mixed-media works. Hours are Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m.-11 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

• The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum — Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., seven days a week. The museum is Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of the history of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Check out the RCAF Second World War Memorial, a black granite wall about 300 feet in length containing the names of more than 19,000 fatalities, with a larger-than-life bronze statue representing the fallen. There will be a free open house on Remembrance Day from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. At 2 p.m., visit the museum canteen for a free presentation of remembrance, focusing on the First and Second World Wars. Also the museum’s Ladies Auxiliary will be providing coffee and dainties in the main museum.

• The Arts West Travelling Gallery — The travelling gallery is at the Reston Recreation Department.

• Glen P. Sutherland Gallery — “Sight & Sound,” a music-themed art exhibition featuring work by students of Brandon University’s Department of Visual and Aboriginal Art runs through Nov. 14. Hours: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 2-6 p.m.; Thursday 2-8 p.m.

• 12th Street Studio and Gallery — An exhibition by Brandon artist Elaine Rounds, entitled “Nature and Muse,” opens Friday and runs until Dec. 18. Opening reception on Friday at 7 p.m. All are welcome. Hours: Monday 7 p.m.-9 p.m.; Wednesday and Saturday 1 p.m.-5 p.m. or by appointment by calling 204-726-5170.

• Nov. 10 and 15 — The Kinette Club of Brandon is proud to present Westman’s Got Talent at Houstons. • Nov. 11 — The Evans Theatre at Brandon University presents a special Remembrance Day showing of “Battle of Britain,” starring Michael Caine, Trevor Howard and Harry Andrews, at 2 p.m. In 1940, the Royal Air Force fights a desperate battle against the German Luftwaffe for control of British air space to prevent a Nazi invasion of Britain. • Nov. 11 — The special Te Deum Remembrance Day concert will be held at St. Matthew’s Cathedral at 3 p.m. featuring wartime songs.

• Nov. 11 — The Brandon Wheat Kings versus Red Deer Rebels at Westman Place at 4 p.m.

• Nov. 13 — Moscow Ballet’s “Great Russian Nutcracker” will be performed at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tickets and more information available at the WMCA office 204-728-9510 or online at wmca.ca.

• Nov. 13-14 — Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association presents Sun of a Beach 2015, Westman’s biggest beach volleyball tournament and social at the Keystone Centre featuring four courts and 230 yards of sand plus 96 co-ed volleyball teams. • Nov. 13-15 — The Wheat City Kennel Club Dog Show will be held in the Westoba Credit Union Agricultural Centre of Excellence from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day. The event features four all-breeds conformation shows, three obedience trials, three rally obedience trials and the Doberman Pinscher Club of Manitoba is holding its Regional Specialty on Nov. 14. Also on Nov. 14, the Veterans Extravaganza (any dog over the age of seven can compete) in this formal event.

• Nov. 14 — Canada’s favourite kids’ entertainer Bobs and LoLo will be in the Amphitheatre at the Keystone Centre at 1 p.m. with special guest Rockin’ Robin and The Magical Tree. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office 204-726-3555.

• Nov. 14 — A Touch of Christmas will be held at the Knox United Church from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. with more than 20 vendors. Please bring a non-perishable food item or an unwrapped toy. All donations to Samaritan House.

• Nov. 14 — The cast of Vincent Massey High School’s major production of “Cinderella” invite all the little princes and princesses (12 years and under) to their royal gala in the library at Vincent Massey. Join Cinderella and Prince Charming, along with a few of their friends, in celebration of their upcoming show. Dress up in royal attire and join Snow White, Ariel, Rapunzel and others. There will be crafts, tattoos, makeup, stories, a dance party and photo opportunities. There will be two galas, one from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and another from 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m. Tickets are $25 per child and each child attending will receive a flex ticket to the major production on Nov. 26-28.
