• 2 p.m. — Brandon General Museum and Archives’ Show and Tell presentation: Remembering the Prince Edward Hotel with Tony Griffin. We are proud to present an afternoon tea with Tony Griffin, former manager of the Prince Edward Hotel from 2 to 4 p.m. We will also screen the wonderful “Tales From The Eddy” video. Memorabilia from Tony’s personal collection as well as items from the BGMA will be on display. Complimentary beverages and dainties are included. • Anishinaabe writer and University of Manitoba professor Niigaan Sinclair will present a Visual Art Speaker Series talk today. Sinclair’s topic will be “Why Indigenous Art and the Art Gallery Aren’t Friends.” The talk will take place from 11:30 a.m., to 12:30 p.m., in Room 2006 of Clark Hall.
• The Bobcats women’s soccer team is at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association national championship this week in Windsor, Ont. The Bobcats will play their quarter-final match against the top-ranked Aigles d’Ahuntsic on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Watch GoBobcats.ca this week for the latest information on how to see BU in action. The Bobcats basketball teams are at home this weekend for games against the University of Calgary (start times at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday, and 5 and 7 p.m. on Saturday), while the volleyball teams visit the University of Saskatchewan.
• Brandon Edwards of Ducks Unlimited will speak at this week’s Science Seminar Series event on Friday. Edwards will talk about statistics, computer science and mathematics and their relationship to birds as he discusses his role as an ecological statistician. • A new academic year has arrived at Brandon University. New students will arrive on campus for Orientation today, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with campus tours, information sessions and entertainment for students. Fall semester classes will begin on Wednesday.
• Brandon University alumnus Mitch Taylor will discuss his career as a serial entrepreneur over 60 years on Sept. 9. He will share why a poor farm boy from southern Manitoba would take incredible risks, balancing the potential rewards against fear of failure. The talk will take place in Room 2006 of Clark Hall, beginning at 12:40 p.m.
• Homecoming will take place from Sept. 11-14, with music, sports, reunions, a student showcase and stargazing at the Gulliver Astronomical Observatory. One of the highlights of Homecoming is the annual concert, which will feature composer Nicole Lizée returning to her Prairie roots at BU on Sept. 12. • The first concert of the 2025 Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival takes place in Brandon on Wednesday. Alexander Tselyakov, on piano, celebrates 150 years of Maurice Ravel, with a varied program of the great French composer’s masterpieces. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Tickets are $30 in advance or $35 at the door for general admission. • Our Journey, a celebration recognizing First Nation, Métis and Inuit student achievement in education, is coming up on Friday at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Brandon University and Assiniboine College graduates will be among those honoured through ceremony and tradition. There will be a barbecue during the day and feast in the evening for friends and family, as well as entertainment and an opportunity to share in one another’s accomplishments. Please bring your own chair.
• This year’s Convocation ceremonies will include a pair of performances by honorary degree recipients. CBC host Tom Allen will present his chamber musical, “JS Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow,” on May 28 at 7:30 p.m., at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. On May 29, Swedish Soprano Elin Rombo will perform, accompanied by pianist Sharon Rogers. That concert begins at 8 p.m., at the Lorne Watson. Email McMasterT@BrandonU.ca for tickets to those events. • Final exams for the winter term conclude today, paving the way for hundreds of students to receive their degrees at Spring Convocation, which will take place on May 29 and 30. The campus won’t stay quiet for long, however, with PENT Indigenous Teacher Education students already here for their courses and spring session classes beginning on May 5.
• In recognition of Earth Day this week, teachings and stories from the land will be the topic of Friday’s BU Teachings House. Hosted by Indigenous Peoples’ Centre Knowledge Keepers, the discussion will reflect the importance of living in connection with the land of waterways. The event will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., on the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library. All are welcome.
• The School of Music will host the E-Gré 48th National Music Competition in piano taking place from Friday to Sunday in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Six finalists are competing for a top prize valued at $11,000, including a cash award and a national recital tour. Ticket info and details available at E-Gre.ca.

• Brandon University will be the destination for the Take Back the Night march on Thursday. The march, held to raise awareness about gender-based violence, will begin at Princess Park, with guest speakers and drumming, before participants walk to BU, starting at 5 p.m.
• The Bobcats basketball teams are at home this weekend, hosting the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns on Friday and Saturday. The women will start the action off on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. On Saturday, the women will begin at 5 p.m., with the men following at 7:30 p.m. Meanwhile, the Bobcats volleyball teams will be in Winnipeg to visit the University of Manitoba Bisons this weekend.
