Hey there, time traveller!

Passionate foodies and wine lovers descended on Assiniboine Community College North Hill Campus to take a trip around the globe without leaving Brandon. The two-day International Food and Wine Festival at Assiniboine was held on April 25 and 26.
Culinary Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management students joined forces to research and prepare food and wine pairings for this years event. With it being Assiniboine’s final event of the season, it was the perfect experience to close off an amazing year.
Some 350 people attended over the two evenings and enjoyed wine and food pairings from 45 different countries, including Canada, the U.S., France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Chile, Argentina and South Africa, just to name a few.
I stopped at a table and chatted with a few ladies who were seated in the courtyard. One of them — Barb Gilleshammer — said when she told her mom she was going to the festival, her mom mentioned to her that she might be in The Brandon Sun. Her mom must have been very intuitive because I was drawn to their table.
The four ladies were having such a great time socializing and enjoying the wine pairings with barbecue-summer dishes. Kathy Tomlinson had just climbed out of a combine one hour prior to the event, which would have been impossible to guess as she looked refreshed, was all dressed up and enjoying a delicious night out with her friends.
The top wine and food pairing voted by guests was Oyster Bay Pinot Noir paired with a Mediterranean grilled octopus salad. Check out Assiniboine online at assiniboine.net to stay informed about future events.
