Two Brandonites and a Brandon University women’s basketball commit netted Basketball Manitoba scholarships out of a pool of 116 applications for 12 awards.

Neelin Spartans boys coach Matt McLeod received the Jim Bulloch coaching award, for a newer coach with “strong potential as a long-term leader” in the game.

Vincent Massey senior Kenyi Kubari, who competed with Team Manitoba in 2019, earned a Carl Ridd award for excellence on the court, in the classroom and in the community. Kubari helped organize and draw awareness to protests against racial injustice last summer, as well as various events through student council to raise money for Salvation Army and Samaritan House.

Former Dauphinite Cali Yates, who moved to La Salle and is joining the Bobcats, also received a Carl Ridd award. She was involved in fundraisers and also coaches youth basketball and curling. The provincial team member maintains a 98 per cent academic average.
