TODAY

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum open house: With summer hours now being in full effect, visitors are invited to check out the museum’s collection of aircrafts, vehicles and artifacts from the Second World War for free. The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum is located at 300 Commonwealth Way right next to the Brandon Municipal Airport.

• 7:30 p.m. — “Little Shop of Horrors”: Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School is putting its own spin on this 1982 rock-horror musical, which is being staged at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium starting today. After tonight, shows are taking place on Friday (7:30 p.m.) and Saturday (2:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m.). Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children under 12 and $15 for seniors and students. Face masks continue to be required everywhere in the building, including in the concert hall seats. Tickets can be purchased through visiting the WMCA box office, website (wmca.ca) or by calling 204-728-9510.

• 7 to 9 p.m. — Co-ed ultimate frisbee: The Westman Ultimate Disc League is hosting its weekly pickup game at Linden Lanes School (49 Silver Birch Dr.) in Brandon. This game is for people over the age of 14. All participants under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Pickup games will be cancelled on rainy days.

FRIDAY

• 10 p.m. — Go For a Szozda: The Winnipeg-based cover band will be performing at The 40. Cover charge is $5.

SATURDAY

• 7 a.m. — Spruce Woods Spring Spectacular Endurance Ride: This American Endurance Ride Conference-sanctioned event will offer limited distance rides of 25 miles each day. This distance is suitable for anyone that has a fit horse. Organizers will also offer competitive endurance rides of 50 miles each day. This distance is not suitable for beginners and should only be entered by athletes ready to challenge themselves and their equine partners. • 9 a.m. — Tara Reimer horsemanship clinic: This two-day clinic is taking place at Brandon’s Phoenix Ranch (54091 65th St. East). Cloud 9 Ranch instructor Tara Reimer will begin Saturday with a lecture on “How the horse’s brain works” and transition into a groundwork workshop in the afternoon. Sunday morning and afternoon will involve two riding lessons.

• 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Global Market: Brandon’s Global Market (located at the corner of 12th Street and Rosser Avenue) is now open for the season. This year’s event features returning vendors and brand-new booths with a great selection of in-season produce, baked goods, preserves and crafts.

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Marshall Motors 10th anniversary: The local auto dealer (located at 1500 Richmond Ave.) is celebrating 10 years in Brandon by hosting a charity barbecue, with some of the proceeds being donated to the One at a Time Pet Rescue. On top of featuring live music and giveaways, this event will also feature an appearance from the Brandon Road Rebels car club.

• 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Spring stamp and coin sale: The Prairie Mountain Philatelic Society is holding its Spring Stamp and Coin Sale at 311 Park Ave. East. This event is free to attend but masks are required.

• Noon to 2 p.m. — Multi-Grains of Energy opening reception: Westman artist Naomi Gerrard will drop by the Killarney Heritage House for the Arts (44 Water Ave.) to walk local art lovers through her latest mixed media exhibition, which pays tribute to the power of grain. This exhibition will be on display at the gallery until May 28.

• 1 to 5 p.m. — Build a bluebird house: The Minnedosa United Church is inviting local families to visit its main hall (48 Main St. South) for an afternoon of bluebird house creation. All supplies will be provided on site and the event is free to attend. Cookies, juice and coffee will be available at this event. No pre-registration is required.

• 8:30 to 10 p.m. — The Incredibly Hip: This Tragically Hip tribute band will be performing at the Watson Art Centre (104 First Ave. Northwest) in Dauphin. Tickets are $30 per person.

SUNDAY

• 11 a.m. — Blessing of the Wheels: The first official Road Rebels club event of the year will take place outside of St. George’s Anglican Church (1011 Fifth St.). After the blessing, the Road Rebels members are inviting motorists to take part in a cruise to Wawanesa for a mini show and shine in front of the La Roque Diner.

MONDAY

• 1:30 to 3 p.m. — Equity lecture: Brandon University chancellor Mary Jane McCallum will be taking part in a virtual talk on the topic of equity through Zoom. Last year, McCallum became the first Indigenous person and the first woman to hold the position of BU chancellor. Before that, she was appointed to the Senate of Canada in 2017. TUESDAY

• 6 to 7 p.m. — Fresh Air Fitness: The City of Brandon is bringing back its Fresh Air Fitness program due to popular demand, with the second event of the year being a beach volleyball game that is taking place at Kin Park (1651 Third St.). No registration is required for any of these free events, although children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult. All equipment and instruction will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

WEDNESDAY

• 7 p.m. — Souris Railway Museum general meeting: Museum organizers are looking for people interested in volunteering on the board, conducting tours, cleaning and/or learning how to operate the simulator. This year’s meeting is taking place at the Souris Curling Club (32 Third Ave. West).

UPCOMING

• May 20 — Disney’s “Frozen Jr.”: Mecca Productions is delighted to debut this all-kids musical to Westman audiences at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Showtime begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $17 each. Everyone in attendance will be required to show proof of full vaccination. Face masks are also required everywhere in the building, including in the concert hall seats. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office, website (wmca.ca) or by calling 204-728-9510.

• May 21 — CWE Wrestling: Canadian Wrestling’s Elite is hosting its first-ever event in Rivers, which is scheduled to take place at the Riverdale Community Centre (101 Main St.) starting at 7 p.m. This show will feature appearances from “Hotshot” Danny Duggan, “The Real Deal” James Roth, “Canadian Strong Style” Rob Stardom and EZ Ryder. General admission is $21 in advance and $24 at the door. Tickets are available in advance at Shelly Moms Kitchen and the Rivers Legion.

• May 24 — Dallas Smith: The Canadian country music star will be making a stop at the Keystone Centre as part of his Some Things Never Change tour. This concert will also feature appearances from the James Barker Band, Meghan Patrick, Shawn Austin, JoJo Mason, Kelly Prescott and Manny Blue. The show is scheduled to begin around 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or through the Keystone Centre’s box office in person.

• May 26 — BU spring convocation: For the first time in two years, Brandon University is hosting graduation ceremonies in-person at the Healthy Living Centre. The first day of the spring convocation will feature graduates from the faculty of science, the school of music and the faculty of education. The following day will lend the spotlight to students in the faculty of health studies and faculty of arts.

• May 28 — Brandon Garden Club plant sale: The local club’s annual fundraiser is taking place at the Dome Building from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
