TODAY

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — COVID vaccine clinic: Westman Immigrant Services (1001 Pacific Ave.) is once again administering Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines via members of Prairie Mountain Health. Language support is being provided at this clinic. Participants must provide their Manitoba health card or another form of identification.

• 7 to 9 p.m. — Co-ed ultimate frisbee: The Westman Ultimate Disc League is hosting its weekly pickup game at Linden Lanes School (49 Silver Birch Dr.) in Brandon. This game is for people over the age of 14. All participants under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian. Pickup games may be cancelled on rainy days.

7:30 p.m. — East Side Band concert: This event will serve as a showcase for the East Side Band Program, which aims to prepare local elementary music students for a high school environment. Tickets for this upcoming Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium show are $5 per person, although there is also a family rate of $15 (for upwards of eight people). These tickets can be purchased online (wmca.ca), at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

FRIDAY

2 p.m. — ACC graduation: Assiniboine Community College will be celebrating its current crop of graduates at the Keystone Centre this year. ACC students who attend the college’s Parkland Campus will get to pick up their diplomas at Dauphin’s Ukrainian Orthodox Auditorium (304 Whitmore Ave. E.) on June 10.

SATURDAY

9 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Global Market: Brandon’s Global Market (located at the corner of 12th Street and Rosser Avenue) is now open every Saturday until the fall. This year’s event features returning vendors and brand-new booths with a great selection of in-season produce, baked goods, preserves and crafts.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Touch-A-Truck: This outdoor fundraiser gives kids the opportunity to interact with all sorts of vehicles at the Keystone Centre grounds, including construction trucks, farming equipment, emergency vehicles, utility vehicles and more. Admission is $5 per person (cash only). Funds will be donated to Kokum’s Early Enrichment Program daycares.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Town-wide yard sale: The residents of Virden are once again putting together a town-wide yard sale, with the proceeds from registrations and the sale of maps going toward the development of an outdoor area for the local Association for Community Living’s day program. At the same time, the Wallace District Fire Department will be hosting a barbecue at the Virden Farmers Market (565 6th Ave. S.) For more information on this event, call the Association for Community Living at 204-748-1444.

9:30 p.m. — Outdoor movie night: Minnedosa Tourism is hosting a free outdoor screening of Robert Zemeckis’ classic 1985 film “Back to the Future” at Minnedosa Beach. While admission to this public screening is free, a cash canteen will also be available courtesy of Valley Life Beginnings Inc.

SUNDAY

10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Canadian Armed Forces Day: The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (300 Commonwealth Way) is celebrating members of the Canadian military by putting its own collection of Second World War aircrafts on display. This local fleet includes British Tiger Moths, a Harvard, a Cornell, a Stinson and a newly restored Fleet Finch. Entry fees are $10 per person, $5 for youth and $25 for families. All military personnel families and veterans get in for free. Food vendors will be accessible on site.

5 p.m. —BOSS Dance Academy recital: Students from the Portage la Prairie branch of this dance school are scheduled to put on a show at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased online (wmca.ca), at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

TUESDAY

11 a.m. —Senior summer fit camp: The Riverbank Discovery Centre’s seven weeks of senior fit training begins today with a hike and “learn walk,” followed by a Zumba and yoga class on Wednesday and a “Latin Beats” class on Thursday. All of these events — which take place almost every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until July 28 — are free to attend. 6 to 7 p.m. — Fresh Air Fitness: The City of Brandon’s Fresh Air Fitness program is back due to popular demand, with the fifth event of the year being a game of Quidditch that is taking place at the Community Sportsplex track. No registration is required for any of these free events, although children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult. All equipment and instruction will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

WEDNESDAY

All day — Manitoba Summer Fair begins: The first day of this massive summer festival, which has been an attraction in Westman for more than 135 years, is scheduled to return to the Keystone Centre grounds, providing local residents with access to midway rides, ag awareness attractions, horse shows, trade show vendors and a demolition derby. This year’s Summer Fair will run until June 12. Tickets can be purchased in advance through provincialexhibition.com/manitoba-summer-fair.

7 p.m. — Prairie Wires at AGSM: Zürich-based sound artist Jason Kahn will be dropping by the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (710 Rosser Ave.) to showcase his unique form of electronic music. This event is part of Prairie Wires’ 2022 Spring Sound Series.

UPCOMING

June 10 — Westman Flame of Hope Golf Fundraiser: The Glen Lea Golf Course will play host to this inaugural fundraiser, which is being organized by Diabetes Canada and is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Proceeds from this event will go toward sending children with Type 1 Diabetes to summer camp. Outside of playing a round of golf, this fundraiser will also feature a pork-on-bun lunch, raffles, auction items and a burger and beer supper. Tickets are $150 for a single player and $600 for a group of four. To purchase tickets in advance, visit diabetes.ca/westmanflameofhope.

June 11 — Westman Aphasia: The local non-profit organization will be hosting a fundraising barbecue at the Co-op Marketplace Food Store (1305 Richmond Ave.) between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

June 11-12 — Southview Flea Market: This year’s market is being set up at Brandon’s Eastern Access Road between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. and will feature a wide selection of wares from some of Manitoba’s best pickers and artisans. The kind of items up for sale include antique furniture, vintage Pyrex, records, painted glass and home-baked goods. Admission is $3 per person, although children under 12 can get in for free. The Southview Flea Market will also be running throughout July 9-10, Aug. 13-14 and Sept. 10-11. June 17-19 — Jurassic Quest: The Keystone Centre will be housing the largest travelling dinosaur show in North America that features a variety of life-sized animatronic dinosaurs, including a Megalodon, a Spinosaurus, an Apatosaurus and a T-rex. The event will also feature an interactive adventure, walking dinosaur rides and a giant fossil dig. Tickets are available for purchase through keystonecentre.com.

June 18 — Mazergroup Chute Out: For the first time ever, Professional Bull Riders Canada’s Elite Cup Series is coming to Brandon, scheduled to debut inside the Keystone Centre at 7 p.m. PBR Canada’s Elite Cup Series features some of the country’s best riders alongside some of the league’s top international athletes.

June 19 — Father’s Day fish fry: The Shoal Lake Communiplex will be hosting this event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $22 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. Takeout orders are also available. For more information, call Linda at 204-365-7087.

June 25 — CWE wrestling: The Canadian Wrestling’s Elite roster will be returning to the City of Dauphin, with this upcoming event scheduled to take place at the Watson Art Centre (103 1st Ave.) starting at 7 p.m. General admission is $25 at the door and $22 in advance. Advance tickets are available at Parkland Title Loans (102 1st Ave. NE), Dauphin Music & Electronics (14 1st Ave. NW) and the Watson Art Centre.
