Two more school districts have voted to join consolidation, bringing the total to six. Reston, Hillview, Prairie Rose, Kinloss, Paramount and Lanark ratepayers voted their approval of consolidation with the Ewart district turning down the proposal.

Smitty’s Pancake House, located in the Brandon Shoppers Mall, had its official opening. Stan Bachewich is manager of the restaurant.

Manitoba educators have been warned they may be the target of an attempt to spread the Holocaust denial theory in the province’s schools.
Brandon University will add three programs to its calendar this fall; a four-year bachelor of arts degree, a four-year bachelor of science degree and a minor in administrative studies.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
Arrests and publishing names in the newspaper have failed to clear up a backlog of unpaid parking tickets in Manitoba’s two largest cities, so the province has decided to give the cities the right to impound vehicles.
TWENTY YEARS AGO
A platoon bound for an anti-terrorism mission in the Middle East guarded the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1RCHA) building with C7s, spike belts and serious faces yesterday. For the 26 1RCHA soldiers who will leave for an undisclosed location at the end of June, the 56-day tour is a career opportunity. The platoon, a selected group from A Battery, will be the third such Canadian artillery rotation to participate in Operation Apollo, which was established in the Gulf region following the fateful Sept. 11, 2001 attacks. They will replace Edmonton’s 1PPCLI.
TEN YEARS AGO
Among the more than 550 new Brandon University graduates, many of whom look toward the horizon with excitement and nervousness, four nursing graduates are blazing an unprecedented trail. Tamara Hofer, Andrea Maendel, Judith Maendel and Phoebe Wurtz are the first four Hutterite women in the province to walk across a university stage to accept a nursing degree, along with the other graduates during BU’s 102nd convocation Friday. Degrees were awarded to 558 graduates.
Veteran broadcaster Lloyd Robertson received an honorary doctor of laws degree from Brandon University during convocation on Friday afternoon. This is the fourth honorary degree he has received over the course of his broadcast journalism career.
