Valdy, winner of two Juno awards with a total of seven Juno nominations, has four gold albums, was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and is an Order of Canada appointee.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES
• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week. Visitors will be invited to travel back to the 1940s while touring a Second World War-vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. The 18,039 RCAF members who lost their lives during the war are honoured on the museum’s RCAF Second World War Memorial Wall. The museum is proud to be one of the seven Manitoba Signature Museums, a Manitoba Star Attraction and a National Historic Site. On display until Sept. 30: “Ace Flight Academy,” a virtual reality exhibit. Come fly a Second World War biplane included in your admission.
• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Current exhibit: “School Days: History of Schools and School-life in Brandon.” Also a mini exhibit on the Prince Edward Hotel. Both exhibits run until Sept. 29. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are admitted free. • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — The only museum in the world dedicated to telling the story of the more than 200,000 gunners who served Canada. The museum’s collection consists of more than 65,000 artifacts and includes more than 170 artillery pieces and vehicles. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. Classes for youth and adults begin Sept. 18. “Let Them Fly” is in the Community Gallery until Oct. 14 and “Oneirophyte,” featuring five digital artists from Manitoba, is in the Main Gallery from Sept. 21 to Nov. 11. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. • Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. Monthly speaker series returns on Sept. 23 at 2 p.m. featuring Beverley Hicks and Della Mansoff with a presentation on the BMHC and the history of psychiatric nursing in Manitoba. This talk coincides with a new exhibit on nursing in Manitoba that is on display now at the BGMA until the end of September. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.
• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.
• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. As of Sept. 1, we are closed for the season on a daily basis. Tours may be arranged by appointment by calling 204-748-1659 for more information. Admission prices: $5 adults; $2 school-aged children.

• Sept. 15-16 — International Reggae Afro Latin Music and Arts Festival (IRAL) takes place at the Riverbank Discovery Centre. Start time on Sept. 5 is noon; start time on Sept. 6 is 11 p.m.
• Sept. 15-17 — Food Truck Warz at the Keystone Centre will offer tempting selections from 26 food trucks from all over Manitoba. Select Shows will offer rides and entertainment. • Oct. 14-15 and Oct 21-22 — Brandon’s “Big One” Arts and Crafts Sale returns to the UCT Room and the Manitoba Room at the Keystone Centre from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Features 175 booths of local, handmade arts and crafts and food with new vendors in attendance each weekend. Daily admission is $5 (12 and under free) with part of the proceeds going to BRHC Foundation and will go towards helping with Cancer Care in Brandon and Westman area.
