TODAY

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Story and Song Circle with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library. Preschoolers can join Michelle for stories, songs and crafts. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

FRIDAY

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market takes place inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 10 a.m. — No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation honours Canada’s veterans and provides students and youth with an authentic experience that creates knowledge, understanding and appreciation of those who serve and of the sacrifice of Canada’s fallen. You are welcome to join Brandon Legion executive and members for this wonderful service held at the Brandon Cemetery in the veterans section and lay poppies on all headstones.

• 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. — The Brandon United Way presents a Community Fun Lunch with a spaghetti lunch at the Victoria Inn (3550 Victoria Ave.). Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $20 and includes salad, spaghetti with sauce, breadstick, dessert with tea or coffee. Also a 50/50 draw and rainbow raffle. • 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. — Senior Central Dances are starting for the season every Friday (until Dec. 15) at the Central Community Centre (529 Fourth St.) with coffee and lunch to follow. Prairie Fire will provide the music. Cost is $15 per person. Come and join us!

• 7:30 p.m. — Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, Brandon Chapter, and The Pandolfi Initiative are proud to present the fifth annual Big Daddy Tazz and Friends Comedy Show at the Amphitheatre in the Keystone Centre. Hosted by Big Daddy Tazz, the show will feature 2015 Top Canadian Comic Derek Seguin and the 2020 Comedian of the North, Nelson Mayer. • 1 to 4 p.m. — Join members of the Brandon Scrabble Club on Wednesdays for an afternoon of Scrabble, coffee and laughs at the Brandon Public Library. Scrabble boards are provided and all levels of skill are welcome. No registration is required.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Starting Nov. 1, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum winds down for the winter months. Admission will be free but donations gratefully accepted. Observation of the month of Remembrance will culminate in an open house at the museum and the RCAF Second World War Memorial on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m., with a free lecture in our vintage canteen at 2 p.m. The lecture is titled, “Are Museums Important — Who Will Remember?” The museum will close on Nov. 12 and reopen April 1, 2024. • Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Returning this fall is Daly After Dark Exhibit and Candlelight Tours until Nov. 4. Tickets are available online through Eventbrite. The exhibit and candlelight tours are sponsored by Brockie Donovan and Westman Communications Group. Museum hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June). • Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — In September 2023, we opened our Second World War vehicle display. Military vehicles provided firepower, logistical support, mobility and protection for the Canadian Army, enhancing their effectiveness during the Second World War. The exhibit includes eight military vehicles used by Canadians during the Second World War. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. • Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — “A contemporary art gallery, school and shop that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. “Let Them Fly” is in the Community Gallery until Nov. 4 and “Oneirophyte,” featuring five digital artists from Manitoba, is in the Main Gallery until Nov. 11. • Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 204-554-0023.

• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St., Unit 101) — Attractions include the Brandon History Hall, Manitoba Telephone History, the BJ Hales Natural History Collection and rotating exhibits celebrating Brandon’s roots. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

• Virden Pioneer Home Museum (390 King St. West, Virden) — The museum house was built in 1888 by James F. Frame, a hardware merchant and prominent citizen in the community. Entering the museum is like stepping back in time to the 1880s, as you’ll notice the Victorian stylings throughout the home, which is complete with a spacious coach house. As of Sept. 1, we are closed for the season. Tours may be arranged by appointment by calling 204-748-1659 for more information. Admission prices: $5 adults; $2 school-aged children.

• Nov. 9-12 — The Wheat City Kennel Club annual dog show and obedience rally trials take over the Canada Room at the Keystone Centre with approximately 100 dog breeds from Western Canada and the northern United States. The Club is offering free introductory tour on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m. Attendees will learn about the different dog breeds and the many facets of dog shows and obedience trials. Other features of the dog shows include special classes for veteran dogs. On Nov. 11, an Australian shepherd breed specialty and breed booster shows for Doberman pinschers, dachshunds and Irish Setters.

• Nov. 10 — Come and join us at Daly House Museum as historian, radio host, and Order of Manitoba inductee, Gordon Goldsborough talks about his new book, “On the Road to Abandoned Manitoba: Taking the Scenic Route Through Historic Places,” at 6:30 p.m. Talk will be followed by a book signing. • Nov. 10 — Riverbank Make and Take presents Quill Earring Craft Night at the Riverbank Discovery Centre (1-545 Conservation Drive) at 6 p.m. Join us for a unique opportunity to discover the art of crafting earrings in the Anishinaabe style, using locally sourced quills and wolf willow seeds with knowledge keeper Julia Brandon. During the crafty session, enjoy some delicious bannock. The cost for this event is $35 and all necessary supplies are included. • Nov. 11 — The Royal Canadian Legion Brandon Branch No. 3 is holding the Remembrance Day Service at Westoba Place in the Keystone Centre. Service starts at 10:45 a.m. sharp. Guest speaker is Colonel E. H. J. Roberds, CD Director of Capability Analysis. He was raised in Brandon and still calls Brandon his home, even though he has lived all over the world. All are welcome to attend.

• Nov. 11 — The Brandon Wheat Kings host the Regina Pats at Westoba Place at 3 p.m. Tickets available at the Keystone Centre box office.

• Nov. 12 — A Christmas market, the third annual Deck the Halls, will be held in the Kemnay Recreation Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission.

• Nov. 15-17 — École Secondaire Neelin High School proudly presents “Where’s Charley?” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Nightly shows at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or by calling 204-728-9510.

• Nov. 16 — Join the John Howard Society of Brandon for “Crossing The Line,” a fundraiser that will feature a comedy roast of Mayor Jeff Fawcett, a live auction, dunk tank and 50/50 draw at the Victoria Inn at 6:30 p.m. This event is for the raising of funds for JHS’s transitional housing facility. • Nov. 18 — Come out and join in the fun for the City of Brandon’s annual Santa Parade as it makes its way from Sixth Street and Rosser Avenue to 17th Street, up to Princess Avenue and back to Sixth Street. Starts at 6 p.m.

• Nov. 19 — Canadian comedian Jon Dore with guest Jordan Welwood will be performing at the Keystone Centre Amphitheatre. Doors open at 6 p.m.; show at 7 p.m. Tickets on sale at ticketmaster.ca. This is a 16+ event.
