A new senior citizens apartment block is now under construction at the southwest corner of 15th Street and Princess Avenue. The five-storey building is to include 78 units.

Keith Kyle, a farm management specialist with Manitoba Agriculture, explained the basic functions of computers to Brandon-area farmers in a session on “Cowboy Arithmetic” as applied to computers at the Manitoba Beef Cattle seminar at the Agriculture Extension Centre yesterday.
THIRTY YEARS AGO
A $1.9-million expansion at the Brandon Fire College will make it the finest emergency response training centre in the country, provincial and local officials said yesterday. The 1,620-square-metre planned expansion will provide enough additional classroom space for the college to double its yearly enrolment in pre-employment training.

TEN YEARS AGO
The back of a semi-trailer was sheared off after the operator drove under the Kemnay bridge on Highway 1A yesterday morning in what has become a familiar sight to police. RCMP Staff Sgt. Mike Zens said police have no idea why an estimated six trucks per year — too high for the underpass — fail to obey the various signs and signals alerting operators to avoid the bridge and get stuck.
There will be no debate leading up to the Arthur-Virden byelection. Virden Chamber of Commerce manager Felicity Scott said due to the short timeline, they decided to scrap the event.
Manitoba Opposition Leader Brian Pallister did not back down Friday from criticism of an event commemorating women’s right to vote. Pallister said he plans to file a complaint with the provincial elections commissioner alleging an event planned by the Women’s Advisory Council violates a ban on government advertising and announcements.
