EVERETT – Nathan Free scored 40 seconds into overtime to lift the visiting Portland Winterhawks to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Everett Silvertips in Western Hockey League action on Sunday.
Shea Busch and Clark Schaefer scored three minutes apart halfway through the second period to give the Silvertips a 2-0 lead, but the Winterhawks battled back with goals from Nathan Brown and Alex Weiermair.
Portland netminder Ondrej Stebetak stopped 50 of 52 shots, including 22 of 24 in the second period when the visitors were outshot 24-7.
The first period was scoreless but the Silvertips took a 2-1 lead into the third. The Silvertips went 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Winterhawks were 0-for-3.
The Winterhawks (1-2-0-0) were outshot by the Silvertips (2-0-1-0) 52-30.
