10 a.m. — History is taking flight at the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum this Victoria Day long weekend. Come explore CATPM’s original 1941 wartime hangar, discover the people and aircraft of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, and experience a living aviation museum where history still flies from an active airfield from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. CATPM is also officially launching its 2026 flying season Saturday and Sunday, inviting visitors to experience the sights, sounds and excitement of vintage wartime aviation. This weekend also marks the first time the museum will be offering public heritage flights aboard the newly arrived Boeing Stearman Kaydet. Step into the open cockpit of this iconic Allied Second World War training aircraft. Flights are weather permitting and space is limited. Advance booking is encouraged by calling 204-727-2444.

10 a.m. — At The Farm Gate’s Spring Market opens from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Onanole Recreation Centre featuring regional and local goods, arts, farm produce and baked goods. Free admission.

10 a.m. — Spring in the Dunes guided hikes from 10 a.m. to noon at the Spirit Sands Trailhead, Spruce Woods Provincial Park. Join a park interpreter for a four-kilometre hike in the Spirit Sands, where we will discover the diverse ecosystems, flora and fauna, and the intricate history of the sand dunes. Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia. Daly House in partnership with the Brandon Embroiderers presents “The Art of Embroidery: Past and Present,” an exhibit featuring more than 100 embroidery pieces dating from the 1800s to the present. Exhibit is on display until May 30. Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — Free admission. Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first since 1907. The AGSM boasts two exhibition spaces, an art school and gift shop that supports more than 70 local Manitoba artists. In the Kayes Family Community Gallery are two exhibitions on until June 6, the “Tears of Truth” bead curtain project created by Brandon area students and community members; and “Reconciliation, Resilience and Red” by Justina McKay. Opening in the Main Gallery are two new exhibitions: Mending: Quilt Project 2025-26 with Melanie Rocan and Renewal, a travelling exhibition featuring 33 fibre and textile artists. Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum (CATPM) (Brandon Municipal Airport, Highway 10, 1.6 kilometres north of Brandon) — Canada’s only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — Discover “WWII Command Posts,” a temporary exhibit at the RCA Museum, showcasing Canada’s mobile command vehicles and their role in co-ordinating artillery and communications during the Second World War. May 31 — Road Rebels Poker Run (250 kilometres) takes place at Dinsdale Park on First Street North. Registration at 11:30 a.m.; derby starts at noon with stops along the route.
