VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Canucks have hired Daren Hermiston as director of player personnel and player development.

General manager Ryan Johnson announced the move Friday, saying Hermiston brings experience in player recruitment, evaluation and development.

The Kamloops, B.C., native joins the Canucks after working as a player agent since 2009.

Hermiston studied business administration at Thompson Rivers University and has also served as a guest lecturer in sports and entertainment marketing at Simon Fraser University.

The hiring is the latest move in an overhaul of Vancouver’s hockey operations department after Johnson was named general manager and Daniel and Henrik Sedin moved into co-president roles last month.

The Canucks hired former player Manny Malhotra as head coach earlier this week after he spent two seasons behind the bench with the club’s AHL affiliate in Abbotsford.
