CALGARY – Taegan Stewart’s goal was all the Calgary Wild needed in a 1-0 win over the Halifax Tides on Saturday in Northern Super League action.
Stewart scored in the 48th minute as Calgary (3-12-5) earned only its third win of the season.
She put away her fourth of the season by using a deft touch to juggle a looping pass to shed her defender and then striking with the outside of her boot.
It was Stewart’s first game back after representing Canada in the group stage of the FIFA under-20 Women’s World Cup.
Despite the loss, Halifax (7-10-3) remains in the fourth and final playoff spot in the six-team league.
Jordan Rhodes had a chance for the Tides a minute before Stewart’s goal, but her quick left-footed redirect in the box was blocked by Wild ‘keeper Sarah Keilty-Dilling.
