CALGARY – Vince Dunn scored and had two assists for the Seattle Kraken in a 6-1 win over the Calgary Flames on Thursday.
The Kraken earned their first season-opening road win (1-2-1) in their six-year history.
The Flames dropped their final home-opener at the Saddledome. The team will move to Scotia Place next year after 44 years in the Saddledome.
Jordan Eberle, Frederick Gaudreau, Chandler Stephenson, Matty Beniers and Kaapo Kakko also scored for Seattle.
Goaltender Joey Daccord stopped 24 shots for the win, and also had an assist.
Jared McCann contributed three assists in Seattle’s first of four games against Calgary before Nov. 4.
Calgary’s Ryan Strome scored and goalie Dustin Wolf turned away 26 shots in the loss.
Seattle (34-37-11) ranked 27th and Calgary (34-39-9) ranked 29th among the NHL’s 32 teams last season.
Seattle led 2-0 by the midway point of Thursday’s first period. Eberle scored a power-play goal at 9:10 and Dunn struck 32 seconds later.
The visitors took a commanding lead when Gaudreau scored with 30 remaining in the first period.
Stephenson scored on a breakaway early in the third when Flames defenceman Zach Whitecloud clipped skates with his partner Yan Kuznetsov and fell. Beniers beat Wolf with a blast less than a minute later.
After Strome foiled Daccord’s shutout bid at 16:35 of the third period, Kakko countered 34 seconds later.
The Kraken were without right-winger Matthew Samoskevich (upper body) and centre Jake O’Brien (lower body). The Flames were minus winger Jonathan Huberdeau (hip).
The average age of Calgary’s opening night roster was 27, which tied for seventh-youngest in the league. Seattle’s average age was 28.3.
