HAMILTON – The Tiger-Cats have signed quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to a two-year contract extension that keeps the veteran in Hamilton through the 2028 season.

The CFL team announced the extension Friday, a day before hosting Ottawa in its season finale.

Mitchell is recovering from an ankle injury suffered July 5 in a game against Winnipeg that ended his 2026 season.

He had 1,107 passing yards with a 78.2 per cent completion rate with nine touchdowns and one interception over four games before the injury.

The Ticats have gone 3-10 since Mitchell’s injury and enter their finale out of the playoffs at 5-12.

“I love this team, this locker room and this city,” Mitchell said in a release. “Being sidelined this year only reinforced how much I want to be out there competing with these guys.

“I’m close to being fully recovered, recharged and excited about what’s ahead. I believe we have the people and the commitment to win here, and I am committed to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”

The 36-year-old from Katy, Texas, has twice been named the East Division’s Most Outstanding Player since joining Hamilton in 2023. He won Grey Cup rings in 2014 and 2018 while with the Calgary Stampeders, and was named the CFL’s outstanding player in 2016 and 2018.

Mitchell has amassed 45,426 career passing yards, the eighth-highest total in CFL history, along with 271 touchdown passes and a 112-48-2 record as a starter over 14 seasons with Calgary and Hamilton.

“Since Bo arrived four years ago, he’s continued to work, compete and lead at a high level,” Ticats president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer said.

“He’s been a great teammate, has earned the respect of everyone in our organization and has embraced the Hamilton community. We’re proud to have him continue to lead us. His decision to stay, along with other key members, reflects the belief in what we’re building and the continued commitment from ownership to bringing a championship back to Hamilton.”
