CALGARY – Matt Coronato had a career-high four points with a goal and three assists on Friday night to lead the Calgary Flames to a 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken.
Joel Farabee, with a goal and two assists, Morgan Frost, with a goal and an assist, and Matvei Gridin, with a goal and an assist, also had multi-point nights for Calgary (6-7-0). Aydar Suniev and Ryan Strome rounded out the scoring as the Flames won their fifth straight game at the Saddledome.
Freddy Gaudreau, with his team-leading seventh goal, and Mackie Samoskevich scored for Seattle (8-5-1). The Kraken had soundly beaten Calgary twice in the opening week of the season, winning both games by 6-1 scores.
Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf, making his first start since Oct. 15, made 21 stops to improve to 2-4-0.
Philipp Grubauer started for the visitors, but was pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots. Joey Daccord made 12 stops in relief.
The Flames, who never trailed, finished 2-for-2 with the extra man to improve to a sizzling 9-for-20 over their last seven games.
Calgary was coming off a 4-0 loss in Edmonton on Wednesday that ended the Flames’ four-game win streak.
TAKEAWAYS
Kraken: The struggle on the penalty kill continues. Seattle has allowed 10 power-play goals on 17 attempts over the last six games.
Flames: With goaltender Devin Cooley (lower body) on injured reserve, Arsenii Sergeev was called up from the AHL to back up Wolf. Coronato’s nine assists over the past two weeks is second to Edmonton’s Connor McDavid (14) over the stretch.
KEY MOMENT
Tied 1-1 in the second period, Calgary took charge of the game when Suniev one-timed Frost’s cross-ice pass under the crossbar for the rookie’s fourth goal.
KEY STAT
Mikael Backlund’s assist on Farabee’s goal gave him 610 career points (234 goals, 376 assists). That moved him ahead of Johnny Gaudreau and into sole possession of fifth place on the Flames’ all-time scoring list. He’s six points back of Joe Nieuwendyk for fourth.
UP NEXT
Kraken: Play host to the Flames next Wednesday.
Flames: Open a road trip on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.
