FRIDAY

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — Dance and socialize at Central Community Centre (529 Fourth St., Brandon) on Friday afternoons. Music by Prairie Fire. Admission is $10 and includes lunch. For more information, call 204-729-9301.

• 2 p.m. — Dancing and live music with the Jakeleg Blues Band at the Boissevain Legion Hall (420 South Railway St., Boissevain). No admission charge.

SUNDAY

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — High Tea at Lady of the Lake (135-B 17th St. North, Brandon). High tea includes: assorted sweets; buttermilk biscuits with jam and homemade lemon curd; cucumber, dill and cream cheese sandwiches; egg salad on a buttermilk biscuit; tea, coffee or wine. Tea for two is $50 (or $25 each). High tea may be booked for any number. Children under 10 are $12.50 each. Gluten-free add $4 each. By reservation only, call 204-726-8785. Lady of the Lake: “Don Easter attire … spring hats, gloves, garden party dress … anything you may fancy!”

• 3 p.m. — The Brandon Community Orchestra performs its spring concert at the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church (635 McDiarmid Dr.), featuring classical and contemporary music with the theme, “Song and Dance.” For more information, email contact@brandoncommunityorchestra.com. MONDAY

• 1:15 to 4 p.m. — The East End Sunshine Card Club meets Mondays at the East End Community Centre at the corner of Victoria Avenue East and Park Street. Coffee and snacks. Members and guests welcome. For more information, call 204-727-3539.

• 6:30 p.m. — UCT Travo Bingo (205 College Ave., Brandon) takes place every Monday. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the early bird starts at 6:30 p.m. Regular games start at 7:10 p.m. Chase the Ace each week. Proceeds go to help those in need in Brandon and area.

TUESDAY

• 7 to 9 p.m. — The Wheat City Carvers meet each Tuesday until mid-April at the Vincent Massey High School drafting room to share the skill of carving and woodwork with fellow carvers of all skill levels. For more information, call Bette Tardiff at 204-726-4191 or Craig Miller at 204-761-2013.

• 2 to 4 p.m. — Check out the displays of more than 300 students who are competing in the Western Manitoba Science Fair at Brandon University’s Healthy Living Centre (2010 Louise Ave., Brandon). Public viewing is from 2 to 4 p.m. The awards ceremony for grades 1 to 6 is at 4:30 p.m., while the ceremony for grades 7 to 12 is at 7:30 p.m. Free admission.

WEDNESDAY

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — The Brandon Embroiderers meet weekly to share their love of needlework, learn new skills and stitch together. All levels and abilities are welcome to attend. Call Dianne at 204-725-1445 or Darlene at 204-727-1624 for more information.

• 3:20 to 4:45 p.m. — LEGO Bricks and Bits Club at the Lakeland Regional Library (318 Williams Ave., Killarney). LEGO provided, no registration, build your own adventure, complete challenges. LEGO builds will be displayed weekly.

• 5 to 8 p.m. — Wednesday Knights at Chez Angela Bakery and Café (Unit C, 29 10th St., Brandon). The Brandon Knights Chess Club joins Chez Angela on Wednesday evenings. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

AT THE CLUBS

• The 40 (210 18th St. North, Brandon) — 8 Track Shuffle plays The 40 today and Saturday. This classic rock group, with a dash of country, has played throughout southern Manitoba for the past few years. Admission is $10 and shows start at 10:30 p.m. This is an 18-plus event and photo identification is required.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118, Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — The only museum in the world dedicated to telling the story of more than 200,000 gunners who served Canada. The museum’s collection consists of more than 65,000 artifacts and includes more than 170 artillery pieces and vehicles. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. The “In Service of Peace” exhibit continues at the museum until the end of May. The exhibit highlights Canada’s experience in peacekeeping and peacemaking.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June); Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are free. Phone 204-727-1722 for more information.

• Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — A “contemporary art gallery that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Phone 204-727-1036 or email: info@agsm.ca. Until June 3 — “The Long and the Short of It, Brandon Embroiderers.” Reception on April 13 at 7 p.m. In celebration of the group’s 25th anniversary, the exhibition showcases recent work by members of the Brandon Embroiderers. Traditional and contemporary techniques will be featured, including blackwork, Hardanger, canvas work, cross stitch, crewel, goldwork, candlewicking, needle painting, ribbon and stumpwork.

• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 431-280-0023. Starting Friday and running until April 29 — “The Geography of Home” featuring the mosaic and rug art work of Sharon Stobbe Loeppky. Opening reception is April 15, from 2 to 4 p.m.

• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St.) — Exhibits include Manitoba telephone history, Brandon History Hall, the BJ Hales Gallery and the William G. Hobbs Heritage Collection of painting prints. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Phone 204-717-1514 or email bgmainfo@wcgwave. ca. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• Artsforward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

AT THE EVANS THEATRE

• Friday through Sunday — “Riceboy Sleeps”: A South Korean mother and son struggle with their new life in 1990s Canada and the growing rift between them. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m.

THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL

• April 13-15 — Crocus Plains Regional Secondary School presents this stage show — based on the popular Nickelodeon animated series — at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Showtimes are 7 p.m. on April 13-14, and 2 p.m. on April 15. Tickets: adults, $20; seniors and students $15; 12 and under, $12. UPCOMING EVENTS

• April 14 — Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council presents Will’s Jams at the Shamrock Centre (725 Broadway Ave, Killarney). Families are invited to a free pizza party at 6 p.m. (tickets must be bought in advance). Doors for the show open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults, $20 for youth aged 13 to 18, and children 12 and under are free. • April 22 — Stampeders in Concert, Celebrating 50 Years, at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (available online at wmca.ca, at the auditorium box office, or by calling 204-728-9510). The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. • April 22 — Sunset Rotary Club of Brandon presents the 11th annual Brandon Beer Tasting Festival, 7 to 10 p.m. in the Imperial Ballroom of the Victoria Inn Hotel and Convention Centre. Tickets are $35 and available at Brandon Liquor Marts and at the door of the event. Samples included and a light lunch served. Proceeds support the YWCA Westman Women’s Shelter and other local charities.

• April 27-30 — Mecca Productions presents “The Sound of Music” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. for April 27-28, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on April 29, and 2 p.m. on April 30. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and students, and $20 for children 12 and under.
