TODAY

• 10:15 to 11 a.m. — Starting today, each Thursday throughout May and June will feature Storytimes with Michelle at the Brandon Public Library for preschoolers. Little ones can enjoy a story, song and craft. The presence of a caregiver or parent is required. No registration necessary.

• 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. — Superhero Storytime at Lakeland Regional Library (318 Williams Ave., Killarney). Children get to dress up as their favourite superhero and enjoy a story, a craft and snacks. Two storytimes will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

FRIDAY

• 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Farmers’ Market inside The Town Centre (800 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Local fresh produce, baking, jams and jellies, pickling, yarn, bison, beef, beeswax candles, crafts and more. This event runs year-round.

• 10:30 to 11 a.m. — This Friday, and each Friday in May, is toddler time at the Shoppers Mall branch of the Western Manitoba Regional Library. Join Robin for stories, songs and playtime. A parent or caregiver must attend. No registration is required.

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — Dance and socialize at Central Community Centre (529 Fourth St., Brandon) on Friday afternoons. Music by Prairie Fire. Admission is $10 and includes lunch. For more information, call 204-729-9301.

• 6 to 8 p.m. — Make your own spring welcome sign for your front porch at the Make and Take: Spring Welcome Sign event at the Brandon Riverbank Centre (545 Conservation Dr., Brandon) with local artist Amanda Dupuis. Tickets are $53.22 through eventbrite.ca.

• 6:30 to 7:50 p.m. — Pop, folk and original music with Anastasia Jane at Chez Angela Bakery and Café (Unit C, 29 10th St., Brandon) as part of Free Music Friday. No charge for the show, but all tips for the artist will go to the Westman Empowerment Fund.

SATURDAY

• 9 a.m. — Knox United Church (451 18th St., Brandon) holds its indoor garage sale.

• 9 a.m. — Kiwanis Club of Brandon bike auction at the Brandon Curling Club in the Keystone Centre (1175 18th St., Brandon). Viewing starts at 9 a.m. and the auction itself starts at 10 a.m. All proceeds from the sale go to community projects.

• 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. — Brandon’s Biggest Garage Sale, Spring Edition at the Manitoba Room and UCT Pavilion at the Keystone Centre (1175 18th St., Brandon). Open to garage salers, crafters, bakers and retail vendors. Admission is $2 (children 12 and under free).

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Brandon Spring Craft Market at the Victoria Inn Hotel and Conference Centre (3550 Victoria Ave., Brandon). More than 30 crafters and sellers. Admission is $2, but 12 and under are free. Proceeds from a raffle will go to One at a Time animal rescue.

• 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. — Dungeon and Dragons Saturdays at the Brandon Public Library (Unit 1, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon). Learn to play one of the world’s most popular roleplaying games. All ages and skill levels are invited to this beginner program. Bringing your own dice is welcome but not required.

SUNDAY

• 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — Valleyview School (65 Whillier Dr., Brandon) is having a spring market featuring more than 30 vendors that include crafts, homemade food, clothes, wares, makeup, healthy living goods, face paint and more. Admission is $1. There will also be a hotdog barbecue with baking and pop for $1 each. And for fun, there will be prizes raffled off from community sponsors, including an office chair. All proceeds go to building an outdoor classroom that can be used by the whole community.

MONDAY

• 1:15 to 4 p.m. — The East End Sunshine Card Club meets Mondays at the East End Community Centre at the corner of Victoria Avenue East and Park Street. Coffee and snacks. Members and guests welcome. For more information, call 204-727-3539.

• 6:30 p.m. — UCT Travo Bingo (205 College Ave., Brandon) takes place every Monday. Doors open at 4 p.m., and the early bird starts at 6:30 p.m. Regular games start at 7:10 p.m. Chase the Ace each week. Proceeds go to help those in need in Brandon and area.

WEDNESDAY

• 10:30 to 11 a.m. — Baby Storytimes at the Shoppers Mall branch of the Western Manitoba Regional Library (1570 18th St., Brandon) every Wednesday throughout May and June. Rhymes, songs, lap bounces and stories. For babies less than a year old up to 18 months with their parents or caregivers. No registration required.

• 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. — The Brandon Embroiderers meet weekly to share their love of needlework, learn new skills and stitch together. All levels and abilities are welcome to attend. Call Dianne at 204-725-1445 or Darlene at 204-727-1624 for more information.

• 3:20 to 4:45 p.m. — LEGO Bricks and Bits Club at the Lakeland Regional Library (318 Williams Ave., Killarney). LEGO provided. No registration required. Build your own adventure, complete challenges and LEGO builds will be displayed weekly.

• 5 to 8 p.m. — Wednesday Knights at Chez Angela Bakery and Café (Unit C, 29 10th St., Brandon). The Brandon Knights Chess Club joins Chez Angela on Wednesday evenings. Players of all skill levels are welcome.

AT THE CLUBS

• The 40 (210 18th St. North, Brandon) — Two nights of rock and country with Tanglebox, who will play The 40 Friday and Saturday night. $10 cover charge. This is an 18-plus event and photo identification is required.

• Lady of the Lake (135-B 17th St. North, Brandon) — Juno-nominated traditional country and modern folk artist Jan Ek plays a free show from 6 to 7:30 p.m., followed by an evening of flamenco music and brazilian jazz with Flamenco on the Prairies from 9 to 11 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available on eventbrite.ca.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC

• Tonight through Sunday — Mecca Productions presents “The Sound of Music” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. tonight and Friday, 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors and students, and $20 for children 12 and under. QUILT SHOW

• Friday and Saturday — Nifty Needlers will host a quilt show at First Baptist Church (3881 Park Ave. in Brandon) from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $5.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

• Royal Canadian Artillery Museum (Building N-118 Patricia Rd., CFB Shilo) — The only museum in the world dedicated to telling the story of more than 200,000 gunners who served Canada. The museum’s collection consists of more than 65,000 artifacts and includes more than 170 artillery pieces and vehicles. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. The “In Service of Peace” exhibit continues at the museum until the end of May. The exhibit highlights Canada’s experience in peacekeeping and peacemaking.

• Daly House Museum (122 18th St., Brandon) — Built in 1882, the Daly House was the original home of Brandon’s first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly. Artifacts include a collection of late 19th-century and early 20th-century furnishings, First World War memorabilia, toys, dolls and women’s wear. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. (September to June); Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. (July and August). Admission: $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth (six to 18 years old), family (up to two adults and three children) $12, and children under five are free. Phone 204-727-1722 for more information.

• Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (Unit 2, 710 Rosser Ave., Brandon) — A “contemporary art gallery that celebrates artistic excellence and diversity within our region and beyond.” The AGSM is Manitoba’s oldest centre for visual art and one of Canada’s first. Hours: 4 to 9 p.m. Monday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday; noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Phone 204-727-1036 or email: info@agsm.ca. Until June 3 — “The Long and the Short of It, Brandon Embroiderers.” Reception tonight at 7 p.m. In celebration of the group’s 25th anniversary, the exhibition showcases recent work by members of Brandon Embroiderers. Traditional and contemporary techniques will be featured, including blackwork, Hardanger, canvas work, cross stitch, crewel, goldwork, candlewicking, needle painting, ribbon and stumpwork. Until June 17 — “Stimulus/Response” by The Drawn Together Collective. In this exhibition, the 10 current members of the collective respond to works written by women of the Canadian Prairies, from the quintessential world of Margaret Lawrence’s “Manawaka” to a coming-of-midlife memoir written by a childhood friend.

• Killarney’s Heritage Home for the Arts (44 Water Ave., Killarney) — The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council’s gallery is in the Heritage Home for the Arts. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. The gallery is closed all statutory holidays. Special tours can be arranged by calling the arts administrator at 431-280-0023. Through April 29 — “The Geography of Home” featuring the mosaic and rug art work of Sharon Stobbe Loeppky. Opening reception is Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. May 15 to June 3, ArtsWest Travelling Gallery — With more than 73 entries by 43 artists, 19 works were selected to form this year’s Travelling Gallery. The gallery will visit 17 communities in Southwestern Manitoba over the next year, and there is a Killarney artist in this year’s show.

• Brandon General Museum and Archives (19 Ninth St.) — Exhibits include Manitoba telephone history, Brandon History Hall, the BJ Hales Gallery and the William G. • 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum (within the Brandon Armoury, 1116 Victoria Ave.) — The museum is open Tuesdays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closed for lunch. Also open by appointment.

• ArtsForward (293 Mountain Ave., Neepawa) — ArtsForward is the central arts venue in Neepawa, in visual, literary, performing and material arts. Hours are: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mondays to Thursdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays; closed on weekends.

AT THE EVANS THEATRE

• Friday through Sunday — “Ever Deadly”: Ever Deadly weaves concert footage with stunning sequences filmed on location in Nunavut, seamlessly bridging landscapes, stories and songs with pain, anger and triumph — all through the expressions of Tanya Tagaq, one of the most innovative musical performers of our time. Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. and admission is $6.

UPCOMING EVENTS

• May 3 — École Harrison presents “Raconte-moi une histoire/Tell Me a Story” at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium. École Harrison kindergarten to Grade 6 students invite you to discover stories from around the world. In “Raconte-moi une histoire/Tell Me a Story,” young Lom hears a new story each night before bed. What happens when she refuses to share her bedtime stories? Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students aged 13 to 17, and $2 for children 12 and under. • May 5-7 — Brandon Troyanda School of Ukrainian Dance is hosting a dance competition at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium (205 20th St., Brandon). An event that showcases the artistic and cultural expressions of Ukrainian dance in competition style. One thousand dancers and instructors from 29 clubs across Manitoba and Saskatchewan will attend, with more than 330 dances performed during the weekend. Members of the public are welcome to attend and there will be various displays, vendors, food and music. Hours: May 5, 1 to 9 p.m.; May 6, 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; May 7, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission: Day pass is $10, weekend pass $25, children 10 and under are free.

• May 12 — A Night of Comedy with Kevin Farley at the Keystone Centre (1175 18th St., Brandon). Tickets are $42 each, plus fees and taxes. Showtime at 7 p.m.

• May 13 — The Great Benjamins Circus at the Keystone Centre (1175 18th St., Brandon). Tickets are $35 to $50, plus fees and taxes, and available through Ticketmaster.
